Miss Joyces International Nursery School provides
education, care and support for more than
360 Gambian children, from three to eight years of age.
Opened in 2000, the school is located in the village
of Kumkujang in Western Gambia.
Miss Joyces operates weekdays from 8am until 1pm.
The schools founder and namesake, Joyce Avard,
has in an extraordinary one-woman fundraising
campaign, financed the construction of a village well
on the school site and later the school.
During the summer of 2005 we constructed toilet
and kitchen facilities so that they could extend
the length of the school day and provide a much
needed mid-day meal and sanitary facilities.
Efforts are also underway to encourage individual
sponsorships for each or the 360 children at the school.
